A Brief History and Characteristics of the Faculty

The faculty of “Railway Operation” was opened in 1950 in Rostov Institute of Railway Transport Engineers. In 1982 it was renamed into the faculty of “Transportation management”. During this period the department has educated about 7000 engineers and engineers - economists.

12 % of the faculty students graduated from the university with honors. Today about 900 students are being trained at the faculty.

Objects and spheres of professional work of the graduate are the state organizations and the enterprises on transportation of cargoes and passengers, the transport organizations and the enterprises of other forms of ownership, safety service at traffic, the forwarding enterprises and the organizations and the enterprises of other forms of ownership, safety service at traffic, the forwarding enterprises and the organizations, departments of transport and state transport inspection, marketing service and subdivisions on studying and service of the transport service market, regional systems of cargo traffic, transportations of passengers, industrial and marketing systems, the organizations and the enterprises of information supply of industrial - technological systems.

Material, technical and intellectual maintenance of the educational process:

The university has well equipped lecture-halls, computer and educational classes. The training complex “The Virtual Railway”, the educational and laboratory complexes – workplaces of “The Logistics Specialist”, “The Station Attendant”, “The Train Dispatcher”, the Automatic Management System “A Railway Station – a Seaport”, etc. are used in teaching disciplines of the specialty and specialization. The lecture-halls of “The Law”, equipped with the reference documents, the training-supervising software, informative and legal systems “Guarantor”, “the Adviser +”, the lecture-class “The Center of Computer Technologies”, and also computer classes with training program courses and the software for carrying out business games are used in teaching the humanitarian and economic disciplines.

The library has a wide range of educational and scientific editions in printed and electronic formats. Lessons are carried out by the qualified teachers.

The students master their practical skills during the training practice in summer after each year of education at the stations, in the railways branches and departments, in the large enterprises of the region, including the enterprises of kinds of transport, in the subdivisions maintaining logistical, marketing and forwarding activity, the excursions in the large transport-logistical and terminal centers of the region are organized.

An additional information: The students are actively involved in intra-university, city and regional events, they get a necessary experience of interpersonal professional dialogue on a different level, participate in a rich and various public, cultural and sports life of the university: parties of amateur performances, regional and All-Russia competitions, agitation trains, excursions within the framework of the activity of the military - historical reconstruction club, familiarizing trips to the Russian and foreign educational establishments, patronage of social objects (hospitals, orphanages, boarding schools, etc.).
